OUR STORY
Richie and the High Street Rockers are a vintage Rock n' Roll band based out of Philadelpha, PA. Playing both originals and covers from the 1950s and early 1960s, they are passionately reinventing the sound of rock's roots for the 21st century. Buckle up for hot renditions of classics by Little Richard, Elvis, and Eddie Cochran, then lean back for soft ballads by Dion, Buddy Holly, and the Everly Brothers. With their signature, snappy outfits and overflowing energy, you're guaranteed to be twisting the night away!
"Where did they get the name?"
The name "High Street Rockers" (originally "High Street") is taken from the main road through Pottstown, PA, where founding member Richard "Richie" Thomas spent many years at the Ballroom on High developing a love for vintage dance. Historically, High Street in Pottstown was also a popular strip to "cruise" with your friends. To Richie, the words "High Street" look back to an era when people spent more time with each other, whether downtown, on the dance floor, or at home.
"How did they meet?"
The sound of the Rockers is completed by the rhythmic stylings of Austin Bright (drums/vocals) and the low-frequency talents of John Pachnos (bass/vocals). Austin is a founding member of the group and lives just a few minutes down the road from Richie. Even though they both attended Boyertown High School, they didn't meet until forming this band! John is a recent addition, joining the group in the summer of 2025 and quickly becoming a staple of the group's sound. Together, they aim to put a new and energetic spin on authentic rock and roll.
"Have they recorded any music?"
Richie and the High Street Rockers are excited about what rock and roll can sound like in the 21st century. Richie is a dedicated student of the era and very much enjoys digging into every nuance of the "vintage" sound. In the fall of 2024, the band recorded their debut original album, "Welcome to High Street," at the famous Sun Studios in Memphis, the first recording home of legends like Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and more. Since then, they have released two live albums filled with classic oldies, "Live on the Midway" and "Going Steady."
The band is secretly working on new original songs to share with you all, with plans for a release in early 2027. Stay tuned!
"How's it been going?"
The growth of Richie and the High Street Rockers has been an exciting ride. Their debut performance was held on wooden pallets supported by cinder blocks. A small crowd gathered and danced the night away on a blacktop basketball court. Encouraged by the audience's response, the boys began posting videos of themselves online. To their surprise, their videos were soon getting millions of views, and once the views started, so did the calls from excited venues and promoters. The band is grateful to have received invitations to perform incredible shows from San Francisco to Florida, to have their music featured by Tommy James on SiriusXM radio, and to open for the one-and-only Chubby Checker ("The Twist").
"So, what are the band's future plans?"
As the group gets bigger and bigger, Richie and the High Street Rockers are always searching for new ways to use their talents to bring their audiences joy and community. They consider it a privilege to remind fans of wonderful memories and to help them make new ones. A High Street Rockers show is a chance to reconnect with the people around you, to get off your phone, and onto the dance floor.
